Fast Fridays Fire Up Famoso Ahead of Crucial Summit Racing Series Weekend

Smoke rolled, engines thundered, and the burnout box stayed busy Friday night as Fast Fridays returned to Famoso Dragstrip, setting the stage for a huge weekend of Summit Racing Series competition.

From dedicated bracket racers and hard-charging dragsters to street-driven cars making pass after pass under the lights, Fast Fridays once again delivered the laid-back, anything-can-happen atmosphere that has become a favorite among local racers and fans alike.

The quarter-mile stayed active throughout the evening with nonstop Test N Tune action, while the always-popular Burnout Box drew attention from fans lining the fence as drivers put on smoky displays to kick off the weekend in style.

Fast Fridays continues to showcase what grassroots drag racing is all about at Famoso — racers of all experience levels bringing out everything from serious race cars to trusty daily drivers for an affordable night of fun, tuning, and side-by-side action under the lights.

Now the attention quickly turns toward the Summit Racing Series, which returns to Famoso Dragstrip May 16–17 for Race 3 and 4 of the 2026 season.

The weekend features competition across multiple grassroots divisions, including Super Pro, Pro, Sportsman, Motorcycle, Junior Street, High School, and Association classes, as racers continue their pursuit of valuable early-season championship points.

The Super Pro category enters the weekend with Marc Schatkun holding the early points lead after a strong start to the season. Trent Lone and Mark Simonlan sit close behind, while Kyle Rizzoll and Joseph Ghyseliinck remain in striking distance entering the weekend doubleheader.

In Pro competition, Chris Barger carries the points lead over Matt Fritts and Vic Hudson, while the Sportsman category remains one of the tightest battles at the track with Chris Pederson narrowly leading Pam Hulse and Frank Malone entering Race 3 and 4.

The Motorcycle division has also produced close competition through the opening events, with Paul Silvas holding the advantage over Mark Avila and Terry Turner heading into the weekend.

In addition to points competition, racers will once again have access to a dedicated Test & Tune lane throughout the weekend, giving teams extra opportunities to dial in combinations, gather data, and maximize valuable track time between rounds.

With momentum from Friday night’s Fast Fridays program carrying into the weekend, Famoso is expected to once again deliver a packed lineup of grassroots drag racing action featuring racers from across California and beyond.

Whether competing for points, testing new setups, or simply enjoying the atmosphere from the grandstands, fans can expect another full weekend of quarter-mile excitement at Famoso Dragstrip.

Racing action is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. both days as the Summit Racing Series continues its 2026 championship chase at Famoso Dragstrip.
