Schatkuin, Smith Power to Summit Series Race No. 3 Wins at Famoso

Summit Racing Series competitors returned to Famoso Dragstrip for Summit Series Race No. 3, with racers battling through a full day of bracket competition across multiple classes at the Bakersfield quarter-mile.

In Summit Super Pro, Marc Schatkuin of West Hills claimed the victory after defeating James Garner in the final round. Schatkuin posted a 7.487-second pass at 84.48 mph with a strong .027 reaction time to secure the win. Garner turned in a quicker 4.832 at 142.83 mph but came up just short at the stripe. Gerard Halle of Visalia earned the No. 1 qualifying spot.

Paige Smith led the way in Summit Sportsman competition, defeating Tim Arnsward of Coachella in the final round. Smith ran 11.627 seconds at 112.21 mph for the victory. Arnsward earned both the runner-up finish and the No. 1 qualifying position.

Jeff Arnswald captured the Summit Pro category victory. The Las Vegas racer defeated Fresno’s Michael Cortez in the final round after posting a 10.266-second run at 124.48 mph. Ted Walker was the class No. 1 qualifier.

In Summit Motorcycle, Bakersfield’s Manny Taylor raced to the win over Fresno racer Mark Avila. Taylor clocked an 8.749-second pass at 136.40 mph in the final. Avila was also the top qualifier in the category.

James Brown picked up the Super Street victory for Bakersfield after defeating Scott Brown in the final round. Dale Taros qualified No. 1 in the class.

Mike Lang of Lake Havasu City, Arizona earned the win in So-Cal Pro Gas, defeating Pete Bothe in the final. Bakersfield racer Mike Williams secured the No. 1 qualifying position.

Chuck Babcock claimed the Foggit Super Comp victory after defeating Bambee Garfield in the final round. Brian Kam was the top qualifier.

In Junior Street competition, Travis Rees of Newark earned the victory over Dylan Silva of Madera. Rees also earned the No. 1 qualifying spot in the class.

Famoso Dragstrip continues Summit Series competition later this season as local racers chase points championships and division opportunities.
